There was a time, a dark time in human history when World War 1 was raging. Back then countries would use propaganda to lift the spirits of the people and of course to make people believe in the good intentions of your government. Before this kind of propaganda it was used unintentionally to promote for example public health. Yet as many might know from their history classes during World War 1 to lift the spirits of the nation but also to spread false truths. How many people think that german people 100% agreed with Hitlers views? Yet when the information that you get is given to you only through the government it is hard to believe anything else and back in that time when information did not move as freely as it does today.
It is hard for me to believe that still in this day propaganda would be used, especially to falsely give the right to a country to invade another country. The Kony 2012 video is a good example, you are given a lot of information about this warlord but in the end all it is after is to give a country the right to enter to get oil. People are raging war's for the sake of natural gasses and minerals. What is the point?? If western country's don't have enough natural resources, then maybe oh just maybe we should change the way we consume these natural resources.
I have also experienced so much of propaganda. My parents often tell me their stories of the old days when information was missing and the only source of knowledge is from the government..
ReplyDeleteI hate misleading media. At first I didn't really believe in this Kony thing. Just imagine during the Vietnam war the US could just create a similar media piece and legalize their invasion into Vietnam... And seems like I was right!
Never believe in such unheard-of things/organizations without checking them first!
Most people of this world have been subjected to propaganda, but it is sad to see that we cannot learn from our history. Perhaps it is that people are just too lazy to find out anything and believe everything at first sight. People should educate themselves before they can go to claim anything, like lets capture Kony.. Get your facts straight before you open your mouth :) Good that you too have doubt in Kony and other things like it, having a suspicious mind is a healthy thing. It is the key to not repeat our history.
